Arrived at Pompeii Scavi station early afternoon. Immediately signed up for the Vesuvius bus/hiking tour for 22E which left at 13:00. Bus ride took us up the mountain through mostly confusing streets (typical in Italy) then dropped us off where we boarded a 4-wheel drive diesel back country bus. Very comfy. Had two seats to myself. The the hike to the top of Vesuvius. Weather was good so had a great view of the surrounding area. Spectacular. Trip returned to station at 15:30. Went to the resturant next door. Two pieces of thin chicken on a lettuce leaf for 8E. Then they had the gal to charge 2E 'table charge'. You can just walk passed them up the street a little and find many more food and drink stalls. The walk to the B&B takes about 8 minutes in unfamiliar territory so I took a taxi, 10E. Taxi stand just outside the train station. (Note that except for a couple places just outside the ruins, the prices are sky high....typical tourist gougeing. You get furthur into town and there are some shops where it's better).

Arrived at the B&B, rang the bell and was happily greeted by Claudia and her mom, Maria. Very nice, Claudia speaks a little English but they were both very friendly and accomodating. Was shown around by Claudia, given keys, and shown my room. Very, very nice. Big, comfortable room with a desk, closet, big bed. Also has a stove, small refer, and sink but they told me I couldn't use them. Bathroom was ample size, nice shower, but it does take a long time to get hot water. Beautiful courtyard, lots of flowers and trees. I was allowed to use the main kitchen so I stored my food in the refer and cooked my own meals, and did my own dishes, as Maria suggested. The morning breakfast was a crossant and coffee. I didn't even notice the sign in English that there was a charge for using the kitchen but when I asked to pay for that they said for me, no charge this time. Maybe because I did the dishes so often? Anyway, it's a very nice B&B with very nice owners. It's an easy hike to the train and ruins (if it's not raining). I stayed a week. I would stay there again.
