| Comments (English): A group of 5 of us stayed at Classic 1 in Hanoi on 15 April (one night). Its rooms were clean; its free breakfast had a wide variety of food; and its airport pick up service was good. However, the hotel caught us off guard and left us stranded without a room when they cancelled our bookings for 18 April (after we came back from Halong Bay) and 22 April (after we were to have returned from Sapa), without prior notification. This was even though they had confirmed these dates with us via email a week earlier, and had reconfirmed it with us on our first night there. On 18 Apr, we arrived back at Classic 1 from Halong Bay about 7pm, and were shocked to be told that our rooms were not available. Their excuse was that they had waited for us till 6.30pm and had given it away when we didn't come back on time. However, they never told us earlier that we had to be back by a certain time! We then asked whether they had any rooms in their sister hotel, Classic 2, but that was full as well. Their frontdesk was not friendly or apologetic - they kept saying they had merely acted on their lady boss' instructions. That night, tired and hungry, we lugged our luggage through the noisy, crowded streets of old quarter Hanoi, to look for a hotel, but many of the good ones were already fully booked. After about an hour, we found a budget hotel, with smaller rooms that were not up to our expectation. We had no choice but to take it, as it was getting really late. We didn't have a good night's sleep. We are very disappointed with the management of Classic 1. They should have warned us beforehand if we needed to be back from Halong Bay by a certain time. We could have called them by phone if we had known they needed reconfirmation by a certain time on the particular day. If they had wanted a deposit from us, they could have asked, which they never did! As foreign travellers to Vietnam, we were not familiar with their customs and had expected the hotel to keep their word, esp. when everything was already confirmed. We suspected they may have let out our rooms at higher rates to other walk-in customers. Our rates were discounted, as we had booked a promotional package via Internet. We would therefore, like to warn travellers - perhaps, even if the hotel does not ask for an advanced deposit, it may be wise to give them one, and get a receipt, to make sure you secure your rooms for all the days you want. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Comments (English): We stayed 3 nights at Classic 1 hotel. The price was reasonable; the location was very convenient (near shopping area and tourist attractions); hotel staffs were friendly and helpful. Our room was very nice, clean and bright. Room rate including free internet with PC in room, tourist map and buffet breakfast comprising of local and western spreads. Upon arrival, hotel staff waiting for us at the airport to drive us to the hotel (recommend you order pick service from the hotel). We would definitely stay in this hotel again on our next visit. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
